Guide to Breast Asymmetry

For a woman, uneven breasts can take a toll on one's self-esteem. It can put reduce her confidence, and she may become over-conscious about how she looks in and out of clothes. It may be genetic or a result from breast feeding or age.

Breast asymmetry can make a woman feel self consciousness and cause discomfort. Even finding the right-sized bras, bikinis, and tight fitting clothes can be impossible.

Fortunately, there is a solution. The condition of having uneven breasts is breast asymmetry, and there are several ways to treat it. Cosmetic procedures have made it easier to fix various problems, including breast asymmetry.

Depending on your breast asymmetry, your plastic surgeon may recommend a combination of cosmetic procedures to meet your goals and correct breast asymmetry. Procedures like breast augmentation, breast lift, and breast reduction can be used to address the asymmetry.

Breast Asymmetry - What is it?

Breasts are an important part of a woman's anatomy. Regardless of their size or shape, they enhance a woman's curves. Yet, some women, unfortunately, struggle in this regard. Although breasts vary in shape and size per woman, it can be a problem when breasts are asymmetrical.

The issue for that group is that one breast is bigger than the other. While it is completely natural for both breasts to have slight differences in shape and size, there are also instances where some differences may be very significant and noticeable.

Regular changes also occur when a woman is pregnant, breastfeeding, or undergoing some hormonal changes. To correct in some instances it may be necessary to perform plastic surgery especially if more than a cup size difference.

Treatment Options

Cosmetic surgeries can fix differences in proportion, shape, and size. We recommend discussing your goals with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to come up with a surgical plan to meet your goals. There are four main procedures which might be used to address the differences.

Breast Augmentation

Augmentation is the process of inserting an implant in the smaller of the two breasts. This is an ideal option if there is a big difference between your breasts' proportion, shape, and size. You can choose from gummy bear, saline, or silicone implants.

You must note that, like every other cosmetic procedure, breast augmentation has certain pros and cons. Therefore, it is best to have a lengthy and detailed consultation with your plastic surgeon, and only then make an educated decision.

The best plastic surgeon will provide you options with complications and drawbacks. While ruptures rarely occur in breast implants, it is still important to be very vigilant after your surgery and follow each instruction of your plastic surgeon.

Fat Transfer

As the least invasive procedure, fat transfer is ideal for those who only have minimal differences between their breasts' proportion, shape, and size. In this case, the surgeon removes a piece of fat from an unwanted part of your body and augments it into the smaller breast.

The first step involves removing the fat through liposuction or harvesting the fat. Typically, the doctor would remove fat from your flanks, thighs, or abdomen. Then, they use fat to change the mismatching breast.

Breast Reduction

Breast reduction surgery is the cure when one breast is quite larger than the other one. Although you will undergo general anesthesia and a couple of incisions in these surgeries, you will, however, get equal-sized breasts after this.

Breast reduction is the best solution when even the outfits cannot conceal the big size difference of your breasts. After the surgery, your breasts should be quite equal in size, depending on how well you follow the after care instructions of your cosmetic surgeon.

In this procedure, the surgeon makes some incision points, from where he/she removes as much fat, skin, and breast tissue as necessary. Breast augmentation and reduction are extensive surgeries. Therefore, the recovery period that follows is very substantial, and it is compulsory to exercise the utmost care.

Following instructions are vital to successful results.

Breast Lift

If you're looking to give your chest symmetry a little more boost and perfection, a breast lift is a way to do it. It tends to the sagging and drooping breasts and gives them a perky look. You can conduct a simple test to verify if breast lifting is necessary for you.

To do this, stand before a mirror and see where your breast's peaks align with the breast fold. If the breast fold's peak line falls low, a breast lift will be adequate. Once you're through with the process successfully, you will love the youthful appearance of your chest.

Final Thoughts

For any complications or problems you have with your breast asymmetry, cosmetic surgery has a cure. No problem with your mismatched and misaligned breasts can remain unsolved from implants to breast lifts and reductions.

However, it is important to weigh each option and learn about the pros and cons before deciding with some guidance from your doctor.
